The Practice

Ashtanga is a set sequence of postures linked by breath. It does not change. The same series, in the same order, every time — until the body understands it.

Mysore is the traditional form of this practice. Students come during an open window and work through their own portion of the sequence at their own pace, guided individually by the teacher. There is no class to follow. There is only your practice.

The sequence was given by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. It is taught here as it was taught to him — without modification, without softening.

New students begin with Surya Namaskara and are given postures gradually, as the body is ready. There is no rush. The practice unfolds over years.
